Free Will and The Command of the Eagle

by: Kristopher

When the warrior becomes fully aligned to the Dreamer they have the Command of the Eagle at their hand. Toltecs call the Creator of the Nagual (all that is), the Eagle.  When a warrior has the Command of the Eagle at their hand they have the power of the Intent of all creation.

When we are fully aligned to the Dreamer, the Dreamer’s will and our will are one. We have free will but it is the will of the Dreamer. For those new to Toltec lore, the Dreamer is the entity that dreams our particular lifetime. We are the dreamed, dreamed by the Dreamer, our life is the dream.

We begin aligning to the Dreamer when we embark on the Mastery of Intent. Most never make it this far on their path. We must start with the Mastery of Awareness and move to the Mastery of Transformation. This is where most get hung up. Progressing through the Masteries of Awareness and Transformation requires growth. Growth requires that we clean, clear, heal and strengthen the human tonal (in the human we can look at the tonal as the human personality, which consists of the mental, emotional and physical bodies). Growth has nothing to do with how much we “know.”

The cleaning, clearing and healing is not fun. It is work. It takes diligence and perseverance. It requires that we look at our inner and outer worlds as they are, without sugar coating, avoidance or denial. We must begin by looking at ourselves as we are, not how we wish to be.

In order for us to reclaim our free will and find freedom from the patterns and suffering in our lives we must clean, clear, and heal the tonal. The reason for this is simple, but maybe not obvious.

When we are very young and encounter pain due to the dysfunction in our families and society, the psyche’s response is to try to suppress the pain. When we are young we are not able to process the pains and injustices we encounter growing up. We are totally dependent on our parents and caregivers for our very survival. Our needs must be fulfilled by our caregivers. When our needs are not met, or when we encounter the brunt of our parents’ dysfunction, we are wounded. We engage all of our will to suppress the pains of growing up.

Most of us spend our entire lives suppressing the pains of life. We use all of our will to do this. Every time we suppress something we hide it from our awareness. Each time we suppress something from our awareness we add to our subconscious. By the time we are adults we have a huge dark wall in our inner world that blocks us from the Essential Self. This dark wall is our subconscious.

In order to reconnect with the Essential Self we must take down the wall through cleaning, clearing and healing the tonal. We must bring the subconscious back into the light of awareness.

What does this have to do with free will? We are controlled subconsciously by the wounds, pains and patterns in our subconscious.  We have used and continue to use all of our will to hide, suppress and repress these pains and patterns. We have no free will because all of our will is being used to hold our subconscious in place.

When we suppress we make a decision to use our will to hide something from our awareness. When we repress, the suppressing is no longer conscious. It has become an unconscious habit. We are not even aware that we are suppressing. The process of increasing the size of our subconscious continues on and on without us even being aware of it.

In the Mastery of Awareness we begin by becoming aware of that which we repress and suppress. We must start here otherwise we continue to use our will to build our subconscious. As long as we have a subconscious we cannot know who we are because we are hiding aspects from our self. When we use our will to build our subconscious, which controls us, we have no free will because we have used all of our will to build something that controls us. We also have no personal power because we use all of our energy to create a subconscious, over which we have no control.

We cannot cross the line of our free will. When we use our free will to build our subconscious we cannot reverse this as long as we continue to use our will to suppress and repress. Also, and this is something that many have false beliefs about, SPIRIT OR POWER CANNOT HEAL US, ONLY WE CAN HEAL OURSELVES. Why? Because Spirit or Power cannot cross our line of free will. In other words, because we spend a lifetime using our will to repress and suppress our pain and build up our subconscious, Spirit or Power cannot reverse this, because this would be going against our will.  Not even our Essential or True Self can cross this line of will.

We and only we are responsible for our healing. No one can do it for us, not a parent, not a teacher, not a Nagual or Master, not Spirit. A teacher can guide us. Spirit can assist us. But only we can do the work.

It takes an incredible amount of personal power to progress on a spiritual path. Through cleaning, clearing and healing the tonal we are able to reclaim our personal power and restore our free will. The Toltec Path provides us with these tools. When we are clean, clear and healed and have reclaimed our personal power, we are able to align to the Dreamer. We are able to experience true Freedom and have the Command of the Eagle at our hand.

 Love and Light, Kris

Quest for Freedom

by: Mark Sutton

On a cold January night in 1972, I sit at a drive-in theater watching "Billy Jack." The classic story of a lone Indian’s, one man stand against the local petty tyrant and the law. Billy Jack said he was born in a rage and remained that way all his life. In the end when he gave himself up, his girl friend said that she knew it was the hardest thing he could ever do, being locked up and his freedom taken away.

Well I related to old Billy Jack and saw myself in a similar situation in my home life. I had become a captive in a cage ran by a petty tyrant. Deep inside I knew that if I didn’t breakout, I would soon die. At seventeen I saw no way out but to run, run for my life, and run I did. Hitting the road with the clothes on my back and my thumb in the air, I ran from Wichita Falls to Lubbock, Lubbock to New York, New York to Atlanta. I was running, running to find freedom.

It was almost a year to the day I left that I returned to my parents home. I had failed to find a lasting freedom in my travels, but the pattern was set. My running continued for many years in various forms such as addictions, unhealthy relationships, and the pursuit of material possessions. It wasn’t until years later I discovered that running to find freedom was running from myself. The harder I tried to obtain freedom the more elusive it became.

This morning while in the shower the memory of this experience came to mind. Now it is thirty years later and I’m still on a quest for freedom, however my quest is quite different from the past. I’m no longer running to find freedom, instead I have turned inwardly in order to loosen the chains that bind me to suffering and keep me in a prison of self limiting patterns and beliefs. Today I know that true Freedom, Happiness, and Love can only come from within. When this is achieved, it becomes possible to manifest it in our outer world.

Dr. Viktor Frankl was held captive in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. He was stripped of all the things we take for granted as symbols of our identities and freedom. Watching his fellow prisoners die he made a discovery that for ever changed his life. The people that reacted with anger, hate, and bitterness would lose their inner strength and balance only to end up dying. Dr. Frankl realized in his bleak condition, they could torture him or even kill him, but they could not take his freedom to choose how he internally reacted to his captures. Discovering that our ultimate freedom is in how we choose to respond, was the result of having nothing left to lose but life its self. They could take his life, but they could not take his inner freedom of spirit.

"Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose" were lyrics from a song sung by Janis Joplin in the early seventies. Now these words take on a whole new meaning when I look at what true freedom is. Freedom can only come when we do the inner work of cleaning, clearing, and healing. Using sustained effort and unbending intent on this path, will leave nothing left to lose. We then become a hollow bone for Spirit to flow through manifesting our Essential Self into physicality.

After Tibet had fallen to the Chinese, the Dalai Lama was confronted by a general of the conquering army saying, "we have come to free you." The Dalai Lama’s response was, "Only I Can Free Me."

A simple exercise I practice throughout the day is, when I see symbols of freedom be it a flag, an eagle, or a person hitting the open road, I let these symbols serve as a reminder to look inside where true freedom begins. Freedom in our inner world creates Freedom in our outer world. Through sustained effort and unbending intent, my Quest for Freedom is finally becoming attainable and my battle cry remains "FREEDOM."

Love & Light, Mark

Choices

by: Dorothy Cohen

Distant thunder, growing louder
hear the rhythm pounding
steady is the beat

Millions of feet a marching
to their own destiny
relentless is their wand'ring
coming from afar

All the earth's exploding
with thoughts as yet unknown
ideas can move mountains
words that all must heed

We're standing on an abyss,
change is in the wind,
all the earth's exploding,
no where safe to hide,
no place safe to flee,
no miracles will stop it,
no savior's here at hand

Look inside your own self
could find something more

The Fire is HOT

by David Pawlak

I’m sure every child has heard someone tell him, “No don’t touch that it’s HOT”. Well, we know that a great percentage, if not all, touch it anyways, sooner or later! Although I personally don’t remember precisely, I was probably thinking, “yeah, but what IS “hot” anyways?”. What it comes down to is knowing for ourselves. A warning does not communicate the emotion of the reality, and strangely, even if the warning was cleverly enough composed to convey all the details of the imbroglio, our curiosity would be sufficiently peaked to give it a go anyways.

So it is in our daily life, we are normally occupied with one of two activities: satisfying ourselves or surviving. Emotional body activities.

Now, when I started on this path, I wanted to know about the Nagual, about the unknown. One of my big questions was, “how do I get to and find the unknown?”. Anything I can imagine is “the known”. The unknown comes from out there, it is something different than I could ever know or imagine. I used all the Carlos Castaneda tricks to explore in dreaming and just seemed to come up with modifications of “Earth Life experiences”. For sure, things I could never otherwise experience, like traveling Warp 9.8, passing through walls, traveling to an electron and lucid dreaming in a lucid dream in a lucid dream etc!

But then, as I began to work with Kris, I began to see that Earth Life Experience seemed fuller, denser, packed with experience. I saw that my dream body was always with me and that it thrived on diversity of events in consciousness here. As I lost my physical form, the Dream was more evident and I saw that I was in a very special place, where the intensity of experience was like no other “place” in existence.

So we feel the fire in our everyday lives. We dwell on the events and drama, we strive to change our lives. And for that we barely know that we are here, in this special place. Curiosity and “knowing for ourselves” are inherent in us, and while they drive us to the depths of daily drama kicking and struggling,  awake and lucid in this Dream, they can become powerful tools for the accumulation of  Personal Power, in the wonder of consciousness here on Earth.

TESTIMONIAL:
Here is a testimonial. (Thank you Stephanie!)

"I want to tell you how awesome the process at the end of the second CD is. I have never experienced anything like it.
What a miracle I am! Thank you so much for helping me to see this. Although I have been studying for over a year, there are many things on your CDs that bring understanding where I had been uncertain. What I see is your way of defining in a simple yet deeply clear manner, many concepts that are new to the mind. You seem to do it in a way that causes no mental or emotional resistance.
Your manner of teaching reminds me of the facets of a crystal. Clear and sharp. Simple yet awesome." --Stephanie R.

Questions & Answers

by Vessela Sadamori

When I started my apprenticeship in August, 2001 I had read a lot of “toltec” books, understood a little and done even less. The type of guidance I expected was very much as described in Castaneda’s books. I looked forward to hearing stories and thought I would receive answers to the numerous questions I had. My role as an apprentice I saw as having to digest the knowledge my teacher served me on a plate and his role as making the digestion process as easy as possible. The surprise and at times disappointment I felt were total because I didn’t get neither stories nor answers, all I got was practical tasks I had to solve. The help my teacher gave me was in the form of energetic pushes – he would amplify the emotional charges related to the issues I had to work through until they were so painful I couldn’t pretend they didn’t exist anymore. Because as I found out much later that was what I had been doing my whole life – pretend that my issues didn’t exist and stuff them so deeply into my subconscious I had really hard time accessing them in the present. I struggled and I rebelled, I complained and I cried “Why do you torture me? Why don’t you help me out?”. I wanted a quick way out and my teacher never gave me one. Now I can see that what he did was to help me get my personal power back, the power I so irresponsibly dissipated in the past. Every battle I won, every problem I solved on my own brought answers and those answers had special power. That power was mine and mine alone and it was to stay with me forever. It wasn’t something borrowed I had to return. I learned a lot and I discovered a lot – about myself and what I could do, I learned to trust my Self to guide me, I grew and I changed. We get inner strength and confidence, something I have always lacked until now, by doing the work, by sweating it out and doing it on our own. Not by reading books or getting ready answers. Sometimes it is hard and it hurts but this is the real art of the teacher – to help an apprentice turn a potential breakdown into a breakthrough. And how sweet those breakthrough-s are. Because they are something we achieved ourselves, something OURS. The real love and generosity of a teacher is to let us and help us experience that.

Love & Light,

Vessela
