Are There “Good” Beliefs?

There are different levels of growth/spiritual schools. It may appear that some spiritual teachings are in conflict, however, it has more to do with what level you are working at. At one level, truth may appear contradictory to a level below or above it.
A belief can take the form of a life strategy, helping us cope with life. To have a real chance of succeeding in a Direct Knowledge School, a pre-requisite is that you must, at least to a substantial degree, have dominion over your life. If you do not, you will be spending your energy trying to cope with life, whether it be relationships, job, addictions, depression and so on. You will not have the energy required to advance on a true path of growth and evolution. AA, therapy, and even self-help schools can be beneficial in helping us get where we need to be to be involved in a Direct Knowledge School. Self-help schools, for example, give us good tools and life strategies. Therapy can also give you good life strategies. However, a School of Direct Knowledge is not about life strategies. It is about true growth and evolution (which are discussed more in the Mastery of Transformation on-line course).
Using positive beliefs is an example of a life strategy. Replacing negative beliefs with positive beliefs can help you deal with life. However, when you are ready to move to a path of growth and evolution, you must begin to dismantle all beliefs, as no matter whether you consider a belief 'good' or 'bad' it will limit your perception of the world and reality. On a path of growth and evolution, you open up to larger and higher aspects of Self (there are no beliefs at this level). You then live your life in alignment to this Higher Aspect of Self.

On the surface this may seem similar to the belief in AA that there is a power greater than ourselves that can restore us to sanity, which was in question on the school’s forum. But the difference is this - on a Toltec Path, we do not believe that there is a Higher part of Self, instead we use the tools given to us to actually experience it. We receive insight, essences, knowingness and energy from this Higher Aspect directly - with no belief in the middle. If we put a belief in the middle, we will inevitably taint what comes through with preconceptions.
You simply cannot know Higher Aspects of Self, or even imagine what it is like to be in direct contact with Higher Aspects of Self until you are actually in contact with Higher Aspects of Self. You cannot know what you will receive from Higher Aspects of Self until you actually receive it. The only way to receive it is to be completely open and empty. A belief is a mental construct that contains preconceptions. A Christian will have a preconception in their belief in God as to what God is like, for example.
One of the biggest difficulties many have when they encounter a School of Direct Knowledge is that they try to fit it into their inventory - what they have learned or experienced in the past. When you do this, you will never know what a School of Direct Knowledge is, because by its very nature, it does not fit into mental inventory. It is different than anything you have ever done before.

| Dear Kalyn,
"Kumusta", meaning hello and how are you in my native tongue, Philippine. I've been on a spiritual journey for quite sometime. The question I would like to ask is: If one is searching on their own path, and had many rituals, in the process, wouldn’t they feel enlightened in any way? I'm in a stance at the moment, for seeking higher spiritual teachings, as well as medically. I would like some answers, however. I seem not to be getting anywhere. I spoke to Doctors, Acupuncturist, sports medicine. I have had poor health since '92, and it is getting to a point where I have to use two canes to get around. Do you happen to have any advice for me? Thank you in advance.

Hello Marilyn,
Thank you for your question as this is, no doubt, a common question for those who have been on a path for some time.
People have beliefs, or agreements, about what it is to be on a spiritual path. Often they miss the true point though, which is to come to know higher aspects of ourselves, such as our inner guidance, and to then live this. When we look at spiritual masters we see that they do more than meditate: they live their spiritual connection so that we can sense something higher that comes from deep within them. This is due to the fact that they have strengthened, healed and cleared themselves; they have applied their spirituality to their lives.
Rituals, meditations and or any other spiritual practices can aide in our path. These are meant to increase our energetic frequency, which we then must follow through with by healing ourselves and taking actions in our lives which strengthen and heal us. When we do this we slowly increase our energy so that we get to the point to which our energy platform approaches or reaches the higher energies from the practices.
Unfortunately, if we do not focus upon healing ourselves, then these practices can introduce us to higher energies, but we will never make ourselves into a vessel that can hold or match these. Therefore, it is possible and common for people to partake in spiritual practices without finding enlightenment and without raising their own platform.
If we wish to increase our energetic platform or to take steps towards mastership then we must focus on improving our structured (our physical, emotional and mental aspects) and unstructured (energetic) selves. We must focus within.

Finding The Four Agreements was, of course, a major milestone in my own journey toward true Oneness. So has been seeing the film What The Bleep Do We Know? Both of these gifts have solidified and codified what has been vague but insistent all my life. One does so from an Ancient Wisdom perspective, and one from that of Modern Science... balance is gratifying.
I am 50 years old, and have always been on the outskirts of "civilization." I'm an indigo child (one of the first), and have never been able to embrace the American Dream - a steady job, a lot of money, a world of possessions. I've worked as an artist, writer, actor, musician... creativity in communicating to people certain core truths, and hearing theirs, has always been my bliss. As a result, as you can imagine, my life as a citizen has been tenuous, and I rarely have any financial resources in excess of what it costs me to live this marginal lifestyle. There are moments when I fall into an intense fear about my continued well-being, but for the most part I am happy with my senses, my contacts with people, the work I can do, the music I can make, and all those things that comprise my life. On the other hand, I fully, intellectually, understand the concept of being responsible, and contributing civilly to the community, state and nation where I reside. Can you guide me toward a balance between Bohemia and the Bottom Line?

Hello Paul,
We know that every thing is One at the level of energy. It is only in structure that energy is coagulated into form so that we may work in energy at a slow enough speed to work with it, getting to know the part of Oneness that we are, our individual selves. It is only judgments and beliefs that take individualized parts and separate them. Although form is made of different parts it is not necessarily separate.
Our lives have purpose, which is made up of two parts, our personal task, which involves our healing and strengthening, and our life mission in which we contribute to life and others. To fulfill either our task or our purpose we must live up to our responsibilities and to be in the flow of life, we must give to life if we wish to receive from life.
Begin to question your beliefs Paul. Search yourself to find what judgments you hold around partaking in the game of life, even if it is a capitalist game in the US. After all, can’t a bohemian work in corporate America, earn a fortune and donate it to what he deems a worthy cause? You may find that a life with money allows you to impact life and the corporate world from the inside out, while still affording you a comfortable life.
Separation is a theme in your life Paul. To fulfill your life’s purpose you will need to reconcile the parts of you that have avoided life by staying on the outside and the part of you that desires to commune with life, contributing and fulfilling your responsibilities.

Hello Donna,
Life always points us in the direction it is guiding us in. Life opens doors for us to walk through and it is only our agreements, beliefs and conditioning that make us believe that the doors are not what we want so that we close the doors.
Open to life and follow the direction of the open doors. Keep all your options open when you apply to jobs, so that you are not closing any doors. Let the process of looking for a job guide you and follow the doors that stay open.
This is how life guides us. If we follow the direction of the open doors then we are working with the flow of life. If we choose a different direction for any reason then we are going against the flow of life.

Illuminating vs. Eliminating |

This article is the second article in a two part series. The first article is titled Aligning to the Light and it was published in the February issue of the Toltec Path. Click here to read this article.
As people advance on a spiritual path and begin to experience the joys of being in the “light,” it can become difficult to deal with the stark contrast of all that is perceived as “not-light”. They may withdraw from the world, get lost in Spirit or energy and disconnect from people in an attempt to close the door on the darkness. But the game is to be able to extend healing from Self to the world, not to reject the world because it is not healed. We cannot eliminate the darkness. We can, however, illuminate the darkness. We do this by casting our light deeper and brighter.
And so we come back to aligning, which was the theme of last month’s article. When we are healed, integral, and in Self, we no longer feel we have to "fight to be in love and light." We are aligned to it. In Self, there is no risk of being poisoned by the world. That risk comes when we are NOT in Self, and as such, we cease to respond and begin to react. This drives us away from expressing authentically and deeper into compensating and constructing false personalities (sound familiar? fragments and chaos?).
Be aware that the activity of blocking something binds us to it. When we focus our energy on it to repel it, we are in effect aligning to it. The next time you feel threatened by the darkness of the world, and feel the urge to turn away, try aligning to the light instead. Turn the key in the other direction and open the door! This helps us stay in Self, which is essential to being able to extend through patterns.
You might imagine being like the water aligning its structure to the word “love” and forming a beautiful crystal pattern which extends through its previous fragmented, chaotic pattern. That higher vibrating energy is then carried out into the world. Aligning on such a deep level can generate vibrations powerful enough to bring transformation not only to our lives, but also through our lives.

Take Your Own Life Personally
Dear Kalyn,
I am trying not to make such a big deal about my school
grades. Generally my grades can bring me up or down and
I'm trying to stay in the middle. I want to do well in
school, but I don't want to feel so bad if I don't get
the grade I expected. What do I do? How can the Four
Agreements help me?
Student
Hello Student,
It is important to do
our best in school, as in every arena in life, but it is
also important to not take our grades personally.
Just like a lower grade can make you feel unhappy, a
higher grade will provide a temporary high of happiness.
The problem with this is that the grade itself does not
always reflect whether we have done our best or not. It
is important to work to get grades that will serve us if
our grade point average will be significant at a job or
on a school application. However, it may be more
important to monitor how we do based on what we know
about ourselves. When we know that we have done our best
then this should make us feel good about ourselves,
regardless of a grade.
When we don't take things like grades personally then we
are free to monitor whether we have done our best based
on what we know about ourselves. This strengthens our
ability to know and rely on ourselves.

Heaven is a Place Where all Needs are Met |

This issue’s article is taken from Kalyn’s new book, Seek Your Soul, which is a guided year-long recorder leading us to connect with our Souls in simple, effective and enjoyable ways.
We all have needs. Our needs belong to our personalities, our physical, emotional and mental aspects. This is what we have been given in life by our Souls.
Needs are misunderstood, often seen as a sign of weakness. People make assumptions about needs, coming to the incorrect conclusions that having needs make us dependant upon others as opposed to being independent. Why would we try to make ourselves independent, when we are meant to be interdependent?
To be interdependent we must strive to connect with others; we must recognize what we can give and what we need to receive. This is the way our Souls made us, and we were made this way for a reason. We are all One at higher levels of energy. In order to connect with ourselves and our Souls, therefore, we must be able to connect with others. We must be able to work with others, to give and receive. We are guided to connecting this way through our needs. When we can fulfill our needs and the needs of others we then benefit from our strengths and the strengths of others. Interdependence offers the ability for us to work together, allowing us to help each other with our weaknesses, diminishing these since we have so much help, and feeding off of each other’s strengths. As such, interdependence can decrease our weaknesses and seemingly increase our strengths.
We all have needs. Some needs need to be fulfilled by ourselves, which is why we seek our Souls – no one else can fulfill the need to know our Souls – and we also have needs that must be fulfilled by others, such as the need for relationship, companionship.
We take another step forward in knowing our Souls when we fulfill our needs; heaven is a place where all needs are met.
Journaling-
Every day this week work on your needs. Focus on the following questions:
What do you need? What needs do you have that must be fulfilled self-to-self and what needs must be fulfilled by others?
Journal your response on the following pages every day. During the week ask for help when you need something from another. Notice how you feel when asking and when receiving. Also practice seeing when another needs help, give this and see what it feels like to give to another’s needs. Pay special attention to the increased feelings of love that come from fulfilling your needs and the needs of others. Ask yourself if this place is more soulful for you and journal about this too.
